HOW IT WAS MADE:
From creator Nancy Scott:
Creating a scent is a process of patience. With natural essential oils, the combinations you choose will smell differently depending on what order you mix them, believe it or not. When creating Comfort, I had the advantage of a goal I was trying to achieve.
Scent is one of the powerful ways to recall memories and affect mood. It is processed in the same area of the brain as memory and emotions. This is why scents can snap our memories back to a time or place with great detail.
There is a long list of scents that can evoke a feeling of comfort, but I narrowed the choices both by using my knowledge of the oils to anticipate how they would work together, and also intuitively. Once I had a short list of oils to work with, I spent hours putting drops on testing paper blotting strips, and trying a variety of scents out in various combinations. When I felt I had a framework I was happy with, I spent many more hours adding drops one at a time until the balance of the ingredients was just right.
Next, an informal testing poll, trying the new blend out on family and friends and asking for honest opinions! I got lucky with Comfort. It was unanimously well received, and a few people even used the very word ‘comfort’ to describe how it made them feel! Most scents do not fall together this easily. I’d like to think I had intuitive guidance.
Comfort as a scent is both uplifting, calming, and reassuring. Appropriate for all occasions. As I only like to provide the very best, I opted to make a perfume, rather than a watered down, and more affordable eau de perfume which is about one third as concentrated, or eau de toilette, which is one tenth as concentrated. Fully 30% of Comfort is essential oils mixed into a neutral, non-toxic alcohol base. As with all natural perfumes, Comfort will mature, like wine, over time and become richer and more complex. It will interact with our own personal body oils to become a fragrance that is as unique as you are. A fragrance is born!
