GIVE ME SPACE ART PRINT
Artist Maria Filar created this as a response to common feedback that her expressions made her seem unapproachable. After being bullied as a child, she created a stern mask of defence. Maria explains, “This is a sort of self-portrait describing the push and pull in the way I present myself to the world. One side says, ‘stay away’ but the deeper part of me says, ‘Please be brave enough to know me. There’s a whole complex universe inside of me I want to show you.’”

If you want to see a person clearly, you need to be skeptical of your first impressions, as our brains are actually wired to make snap judgements that are often untrue. While our image of a person does change as we get to know them, there is evidence that our initial reactions and view still play a role even years down the road. (Psychology Today)
